In a landmark development for Australia's freight industry, energy company Mondo, with support from the Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA), is set to establish the nation's first major electric truck charging hub in Melbourne's Laverton North.
The project, slated for completion by late 2026, represents a significant step towards reducing emissions in road freight.

The facility will feature 14 high-powered charging bays, each with a capacity of approximately 350kW and dual plugs, designed to serve an initial fleet of about 20 battery-electric trucks operated by multiple logistics firms. This setup aims to demonstrate efficient large-scale charging without overloading the grid.

By providing dedicated infrastructure for electric trucks, the project addresses one of the key barriers to the adoption of electric heavy vehicles: the availability of suitable charging facilities. The initiative is expected to encourage more logistics companies to transition to electric fleets, contributing to national emissions reduction goals.

As the freight sector continues to evolve, investments in such infrastructure are crucial for supporting the widespread adoption of electric trucks and ensuring the sustainability of Australia's transport industry.
