Australia's marine insurance landscape has welcomed a significant new player with the launch of Marinex Underwriting.
This specialised marine underwriting agency aims to address the complex insurance needs of the Australian marine sector, offering tailored solutions backed by global specialty insurance distributor Amwins.

Marinex Underwriting is the latest venture from Rhodian Group, an incubator of underwriting agencies in Australia. The agency is co-founded by industry veterans Janelle Karnib, Chris Kelly, and Ainsley Smith, who bring a wealth of experience and expertise to the table. Their collective vision is to establish Marinex as the go-to marine underwriting agency in Australia, delivering unparalleled service and innovative solutions that cater to the evolving needs of clients.

Initially, Marinex will offer four key products: Cargo, Carriers, Commercial Hull, and Marine Liability insurance. These offerings are designed to provide comprehensive coverage for various aspects of marine operations, ensuring that clients have access to robust protection against potential risks. The agency plans to expand its product range in the near future, further solidifying its presence in the market.

The launch of Marinex Underwriting comes at a time when the global marine insurance industry is experiencing sustained growth. According to the International Union of Marine Insurance (IUMI), global marine insurance premiums increased by 5.9% in 2023, reaching US$38.9 billion. This growth was recorded across all major sectors, including cargo, offshore energy, and ocean hull. In this context, Marinex's entry into the Australian market is both timely and strategic, positioning the agency to meet the increasing demand for specialised marine insurance products.

For Australian businesses involved in marine activities, the arrival of Marinex Underwriting offers a new avenue for securing tailored insurance solutions. The agency's commitment to understanding the complexities of marine insurance and providing specialised expertise ensures that clients receive coverage that aligns with their specific needs. This development is particularly relevant for those seeking flexible and comprehensive insurance options in a dynamic and evolving industry.
