The Australian Government has committed $176 million to acquire a fleet of Australian-designed and built Bluebottle uncrewed surface vessels (USVs) from Ocius Technology.
This investment aims to bolster the Royal Australian Navy's undersea warfare capabilities by providing persistent, long-range intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) operations.

The Bluebottle USVs are equipped with advanced sensors and communication systems, enabling them to operate autonomously across vast maritime domains. Their design allows for continuous monitoring of surface and sub-surface activities, offering a cost-effective solution for enhancing maritime security.

Robert Dane, CEO of Ocius Technology, expressed pride in the contract, emphasizing the significance of building a world-class product and manufacturing capability within Australia. He highlighted that the Bluebottle USVs act as 'satellites of the sea,' delivering ISR capabilities that maintain constant vigilance over and under Australia's oceans at a disruptively low cost.

For stakeholders in the marine industry, this development underscores the growing importance of autonomous maritime technologies and the potential for innovation within the sector. The contract also reflects the government's commitment to investing in sovereign capabilities, presenting opportunities for businesses involved in the development and support of uncrewed systems.

In conclusion, the $176 million investment in Bluebottle USVs signifies a strategic enhancement of Australia's maritime surveillance capabilities and highlights the nation's focus on advancing autonomous technologies within the defence sector.
