CIL and TAFE Queensland Collaborate to Elevate Caravan Repair Training

Ensuring Safer Journeys for Australian Caravanners Through Enhanced Education

CIL and TAFE Queensland Collaborate to Elevate Caravan Repair Training?w=400
In a significant move to bolster the safety and reliability of caravan travel across Australia, leading insurer CIL has partnered with TAFE Queensland to enhance training programs for caravan repair professionals.
This collaboration aims to equip the next generation of repairers with the skills necessary to meet the evolving demands of modern caravan designs.

Since 2019, CIL has been proactive in supporting educational initiatives by donating written-off caravans to TAFE Queensland. These contributions have provided students with invaluable hands-on experience, bridging the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application. The partnership has been instrumental in the establishment of four-year apprenticeships in Recreational Vehicle Service & Repair and Recreational Vehicle Manufacturing, addressing the industry's need for specialised training.

Carolyn Parrella, Suncorp's Head of Niche and Commercial Customer Service, emphasised the importance of this initiative: "At CIL, our mission has always been to help our customers make the most of their caravan adventures. Supporting TAFE Queensland is an extension of that commitment-by building a strong caravan repair industry, we're ensuring safer journeys and a new generation of skilled repairers."

The caravan industry has witnessed significant advancements in design and technology. Modern caravans now feature sophisticated off-grid electrical systems, solar arrays, and lightweight composite materials. Recognising these developments, CIL, in collaboration with Caravanning Queensland, donated a newer model fibreglass caravan in early 2025. This donation ensures that TAFE Queensland's training programs remain current, reflecting the latest industry standards and innovations.

Queensland boasts the largest combined fleet of caravans and campervans in Australia, underscoring the importance of a well-trained repair workforce. Lorraine Cash, CIL's Business Development Manager for Queensland, highlighted the evolving demographics of caravan owners: "We are seeing more young couples who are trying to save for their own home but still want to have a holiday. Camper trailers and hybrid caravans are becoming more popular within Queensland."

By investing in the education and training of future repairers, CIL and TAFE Queensland are not only enhancing the safety and reliability of caravan travel but also supporting the broader industry. This initiative ensures that caravan owners can trust in the expertise of repair professionals, leading to safer and more enjoyable journeys across Australia.
